program: what is this trauma thing anyway and why should I care?

presented by: Donald Cuerdon, M.S. Psychotherapist, Brattleboro, VT

Trauma, in some ways, is the new black. “I went to the store the other day and they didn’t have the shoes I wanted in my size. I was so traumatized.” In many cases, traumatic events in people’s histories—be they “capital T” traumas such as a plane crash or assault, or clusters of “little t” traumas such as the 10,000 “paper cut” indignities some folks experience in childhood—are the root cause of many of their symptoms. Come find out what traumatic experiences truly are—the physiology, lived experience, and effect they can have on you and your friends’, family’s, and colleagues’ fit and healthy lifestyles.

program: education is behind the future

presented by: Jove Stickel, Education Transformation, Higginsville, MO

Education has always been the greatest opportunity for change. For years American education focused on the premise of competition and academics alone in a world where our distractions were limited and things like equity and emotional well being were widely ignored. Education is at a crossroads where the digital age, social emotional learning, a student’s passion and a true partnership with all stakeholders hinge on the relationships we build.
